Routes are subject to change up until the morning of the Race Briefing.
To start, there will be a drive from your hotel to the outskirts of Amman - Wasfi Al Tal Forest for the Prologue. It is a time trial format and will set start positions for Stage 1. The area is steeped in history and you can enjoy magnificent views of the surrounding areas. It is a taster of what is to come on this exciting adventure. There will be a bus transfer in the afternoon back to accommodation in Amman.
This stage is a nice opener and provides a lot of elevation loss as we start making our way towards the lowest point on earth - the Dead Sea.
Early morning drive to the west of Amman where we commence the first stage of the race in the heart of urban life. Shortly after the urban section, we cycle through Iraq al-Amir ("Caves of The Prince"). It is the name shared by the town and nearby caves, within the municipality of Amman in the Jordan Valley. It is marked by the partially restored palace (known colloquially as Qasr Al-Abd, (literally, "Palace of the Servant") perhaps an ironic reference to the name etched in the caves nearby, believed to be the name of the owner of said estate.
After passing through Iraq Al Amir, the terrain changes dramatically from green farmland to the arid hills bordering the Jordan Valley. It is a spectacular experience that guides you to the finish line at Kafrein Dam. There is a short bus transfer to the Holiday Inn Resort at the Dead Sea , the lowest point on earth.
Aptly named the Queen Stage as we believe it competes with stages in top class races around the globe. Starting from the lowest point on earth is an amazing story to tell your friends but it also means that there is a massive climb right from the off! This stage will challenge each and every rider as it heads for Mount Nebo at the summit before starting to provide some relief on the way home. Mount Nebo has its name etched into the history books as it is the place from where Moses stood and saw the Promised Land - Jerusalem.
After passing by the fabled site, you will make your way back to the Race Village with exciting downhills on road and jeep track. The Queen Stage finishes in the grounds of the Holiday Inn Dead Sea Resort. This stage is a real journey of self discovery.
The final route takes you from Shoubak Castle to Little Petra! Shoubak Castle is a Crusader Castle that was the stronghold for the trade route along the Kings Road passing through the region. Shoubak is the highest populated town in Jordan so prepare for a cold morning on the start line.
This is an experience like no other on a mountain bike. With every kilometre of effort, it is a kilometre closer to finishing the Jordan Stage Race and seeing Petra. The scenery is reminiscent of what you would expect to see on Mars as you descend into the Araba Valley along jeep tracks that hug the steep valley sides.
The race finale is situated in Little Petra. The final prize giving will be held at the final Race Village before bus transfers to airports or hotels (for those of you who chose to stay and explore the City of Petra). It is highly recommended as it is not one of the 7 New Wonders of the World for no reason. The rest, my friend, is up to you!
